ScreenShot Saturday

Project Settlement developers just about done with a day long session. Got some good milestones worked out today. The biggest thing I can tell you is that we put down July 31st, 2016 for a playable Alpha build. Our list includes scene changes (moving into and out of "buildings" like the landing spaceship, habitation node (player house,) and creatures with combat.

Lead programmer Nathan Allshouse just posted a screenshot of Project Settlement for #screenshotsaturday on Twitter. Follow Nathan on Twitter @nallshouse. Here's the screenshot.

We'd like to say Thanks to fellow game developer and owner of Nascent Games, Gabriel Gutierrez for sharing his house with us today. And don't forget that Project Settlement will have a booth at the West Sacramento Intergalactic Expo on May 22nd at the West Sacramento Community Center. Drop by and see us and get a chance to play our game. http://westsacscifi.wix.com/westsacscifi

Developer Update

First, I just want to say thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Sacramento Indie Arcade. We got some great feedback from everyone and we plan to keep up with the momentum we generated for this event and really start to develop Project Settlement's gameplay and storyline.

With that said, we have realized one of our biggest problems is that we are only two people, and we both have a normal life with day jobs. So, we've been talking very seriously about a few important steps we need to take. One of which is office space, having an official place to go and work on our game together. This is something we've talked about for about a year now, but weren't quite ready for. Lately, though, there has been a lot of unity amongst the Sacramento indie developers and we've all been collaborating and talking about working together. Some of us our working on the possibility of creating a co-working space that can benefit multiple Sacramento area teams. The other is task management and goal setting. To that end, we're getting organized and instituting a little task management with milestones and critical path.

We've also got a little announcement to make. Yesterday while Angel and I were sitting down at our regular meeting, We happen to get a great bit of good news. We've been invited to demonstrate Project Settlement (being a Sci-Fi themed game) at the upcoming West Sacramento Intergalactic Expo on May 22nd. So, if you didn't get a chance to stop by and see us at the Sacramento Indie Arcade, you'll get another chance in about a month. Sacramento Indie Arcade 2016

The Project Settlement team had a great time at the Sacramento Indie Arcade event yesterday and enjoyed meeting many new people. We hope you also had a great time at the event and got a chance to visit our booth and try out Project Settlement.

What we were able to accomplish was to complete a major transition of the in-game assets from 2D sprite textures to full 3D textured models. This was a lot of work, but we feel quite confident that it was the right choice and that with this change, future development will be a lot easier. Although our gameplay was barely improved over what we had accomplished by last year's Indie Arcade, the 3D transition should streamline future artistic development, giving us the ability to do more with our small two person team.

We'll be posting screenshots, new videos, and developer news throughout the week, and also throughout the Summer as we work hard to get the game to a point where it's ready for an early release state, such as a Steam Greenlight. Our goal is to feel good enough about the development of the game in late Summer that we can announce an early-access alpha release date in late fall/holiday season of 2016.

Saturday, April 2, 2016

This is the last weekend before our big annual event, Sacramento Indie Arcade, so the Project Settlement team and fellow Sacramento game developers Nascent Games combined forces to sequester themselves in a suite at the Marriott's Residence Inn in Vacaville for the weekend. We're calling it Cram Jam (cross between Exam Cram and Game Jam.) For our part, we'll be completing the transition of Project Settlement from all 2D assets to 3D assets, plus adding new game play functionality and cleaning up things a bit before Indie Arcade.
